Polk County Schools is currently piloting a “test to stay” option that will allow those who have had potential exposure as a close contact of someone with COVID-19 to be tested and remain in school with a negative result.

 

The option is available to staff and students in grades kindergarten through twelve who have had a non-household exposure, are asymptomatic and who can wear their mask consistently and correctly for 10 days after exposure.

 

If a student is exposed at school, families interested in the test-to-stay option should contact their school nurse to set up a time to have their student(s) tested for COVID with a rapid antigen test. The parent or guardian must give permission and be present during testing. School health staff will do their best to expedite requests as quickly as possible.

 

If a child has been vaccinated against COVID-19, families should contact the school nurse so that district staff can verify the vaccination status with the Polk County Division of Public Health. Students with no symptoms and a verified vaccination can return to normal activities immediately.

 

As Polk County Schools has noted throughout the pandemic, temporary closures and exclusions will occur. District staff appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as they work through these situations.
