Tryon’s boil water notice was in effect for 2 days

TRYON—Tryon water customers could stop boiling water for human consumption Thursday at noon after spending the previous 2 days having to boil water.

The Town of Tryon sent out notice Thursday saying the water was safe to drink.

The boil water notice was sent out early Tuesday morning after the town had 2 water main line breaks. The breaks were repaired but the water had to be sent off for testing before it could be determined to be safe for human consumption.

The town sends out notices through Nixle.

Boiling water is necessary following water line breaks because periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and the introduction of bacteria into the water system.

During boil water notices, people should boil all water for at least 1 minute that is used for human consumption, including for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation.

Town officials said based on the laboratory analysis of water samples collected from the town on Tuesday, boiling water is no longer necessary.
