MILL SPRING – James Charley Pittman, 76, of Mill Spring passed away, Tuesday morning, January 18, 2022, at his home.
Born in Rutherford County, he was the son of Aileen Medford Pittman Souther and the late James Harley Pittman. Mr. Pittman was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served aboard the USS Springfield during the Vietnam War. Charley retired from PPG Industries in Shelby after 28 years of service.
In addition to his mother, Charley is survived by his wife of 18 years, Jeannette Shehan Pittman of the home; three brothers, Bill Pittman of Ellenboro, Donald Souther of Bostic, and Robert Souther of Spindale; two sisters, Shirley Champion and Joyce Skipper both of Rutherfordton. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 25, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the McFarland Funeral Chapel.
A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with Reverend Todd Fletcher officiating.
Burial will follow in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Military honors will be conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
