Area residents can receive Polk alerts through Everbridge

POLK COUNTY—After this week of crippling snow to some areas, people may want to sign up for the county’s new emergency alert system.

Polk County recently transitioned to the Everbridge system to send out emergency alerts. The county was using Nixle like other area municipalities for emergency messages.

Polk County Local Government announced earlier this year it would transition to the Everbridge system, which is an improved way to receive vital information.

Everbridge is designed to alert residents and visitors about situations such as severe weather, fires, floods, law enforcement emergencies, power outages, maintenance, community health announcements and more.

Users to the system can decide how they want to receive alerts from the county.

The new platform of Everbridge will allow multiple contact methods, two-way communication and updated weather alerts. Polk County Local Government is managing the system in coordination with other area departments and agencies.

Messages will be sent to Everbridge users through their preferred methods, including cell phone, text, home phone or email.

Residents listed in the 911 database will be automatically subscribed to Everbridge alerts by phone.
