South Carolina DHEC board overturns permit by a 4-2 vote

CAMPOBELLO—Opponents of a proposed RV park in Campobello won a battle recently when the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Board voted to rescind a septic permit issued.

The permit had been issued to the proposed park by DHEC staff in June and opponents of the park asked the board to consider rescinding it because of concerns.

The board, which met in a live streamed meeting from Columbia agreed with opponents by a 4-2 vote.

The proposed park is proposed by Blue Sky Associates, which will need the permit to open the park, planned on 38.68 acres as T. Tree Farms RV Park. The park is proposed at 1970 Landrum Mill Road.

The board’s majority agreed with opponents that the developer’s permit application was flawed because it proposed an undersized septic system. The park is proposed to have 52 large recreational vehicles.

The vote was in response to a request by 4 homeowners associations and 3 conservation groups.

Having the permit was one of the conditions the Spartanburg County Planning Commission placed when it conditionally approved the park in March.

Another obstacle for the proposed park will be public water, which was another condition set by the planning commission.
