Brevard, NC– Martha Elizabeth Bishop Wheeler of Brevard, NC, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC.
Martha was born on January 19, 1930, in Tryon, NC to Elbert Lawson and Jessie Lawter Bishop. She graduated from Tryon High School in 1949 and graduated from Brevard College in 1951. She was married to George W. Wheeler, Jr from May 1951 until his death in 2010.
Martha went to work for Ecusta Corporation in July 1951 working in many different rolls and retired in 1992 from the Financial Department. She was a member of the Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church, which she had been a member since 1952.
She was a loving person and had an abundance of family and friends. She never met a stranger.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband George W. Wheeler, Jr., and infant son George Michael. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Dean Bishop.
She is survived by her son David W. Wheeler of Hendersonville; her grandson Ryan W. Wheeler (Ashley) of Brevard; three great grandsons, David, John and George; two sisters-in-law, Bette W. Mulley of Texas and Martha Belle W. Fray of Arizona. She is also survived by her two nieces, Marinda (Tommy) Parris of Brevard and Deanna Medford of Brevard.
There will be a private service at the Gillespie Cemetery- Wheeler Family Plot.
Memorials can be made to Brevard College, Scholarship Fund.
