After more than 55 years of service in four counties, Western Carolina Community Action (WCCA) is changing their name. Beginning January 1st, 2022, WCCA will become WNCSource. Under the new name, WNCSource will continue to offer the same vital programs that Western North Carolina residents depend on, with a renewed commitment to improving people’s lives.

Changes in the world and within the organization emphasize the importance of keeping an eye on the future while serving in the present. “WCCA was created in 1966, over 55 years ago,” says David White, WNCSource CEO. “During that time, we’ve put a man on the moon, elected ten US Presidents, and watched the birth of the Internet and social media. A lot has changed at WCCA, too. We went from assisting a few dozen people in Henderson County with a work mobile van and basic childcare to serving more than 8,500 people annually throughout Henderson, Transylvania, Polk, and Rutherford Counties.”

Today, WNCSource offers the following programs: 

• Children’s Services (Head Start, Early Head Start, NC Pre-K)
• Housing (Housing Choice Vouchers and Family Self-Sufficiency)
• Transportation (Seniors, Disabled/Special needs, Medicare/Medicaid) 
• Older Adults Services (Home delivered meals, Liquid nutrition and SOS)

 

“Going forward, we want to empower our neighbors with the resources and services they need to be able to take control and improve their lives,” White says. “That’s why WNCSource will continue to work with our partners in local nonprofits, government, civic and faith-based groups. We’ll be forming new alliances in every community to continue building a powerful network of partners and resources that can help people reach their potential and achieve their goals. Together with our community partners, WNCSource can transform lives and make our communities stronger.”

WCCA’s transformation honors their long-standing commitment to Western North Carolina and heralds a new beginning. “WNCSource marks the next chapter and a new perspective,” says Board Chair, Kim Wilson. “It’s not just about providing Children’s Services, Housing, Transportation and Older Adult’s Services. It’s about equipping and empowering people to be able to turn their lives around and determine their own future. WNCSource is that launch point!”
