Tryon, NC–Marianne (Nan) Cunningham, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on November 19, 2021 at the age of 90 in Tryon, NC.

She died peacefully surrounded by family. She was a resident of Columbus, NC for over 35 years. Nan worked in real estate in Tryon and upon retirement volunteered for Hospice of the Carolina Foothills for more than ten years. She was an active member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church serving as a lay eucharistic minister and teacher of religious education.

Most recently, Nan resided at White Oak of Tryon.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, George Robert Cunningham. They were both natives of Staten Island, New York, where they were married in 1952.

She is survived by her brother Edward McCafferty (Joy). Also, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; Nan’s daughter, Maura McCabe (Richard), their daughter Tara Clements (Corey), children, Kayleigh and Aidan; their daughter Caitlin Clemons (Bradley), children, Brogan and Griffin; their daughter Lizabeth Manfredi (Guglielmo) and their child Cavan; their youngest, son Scott McCabe.

Nan’s son, Richard (Caryn Conaway), their daughter Erin Hatchette (Nicholas), children Jonathan, Elliot Marianne, and Eamon; son Brendan (Sarah) and their child Reuben; daughter Briana; daughter Kerry Spitzer (Todd), children Brady and Charlotte.

Nan’s youngest son, Luke (Jennifer Miles), children, Liam and Maeve.

Her greatest joy was family. “Nanny’s wit” and “way with words” will always be remembered and cherished by those who knew and loved her.

Nan’s family would like to thank White Oak of Tryon and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills for their kind and compassionate care.

Please join us for a funeral Mass to celebrate Nan’s life on Saturday November 27, 2021 at St John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 180 Laurel Ave, Tryon, NC at 11:00am.
