Construction begins for new pavilion at Market Square

LANDRUM—The City of Landrum announced this week that construction has begun for the new Landrum Farmers Market Pavilion. 

The new pavilion is located at the intersection of West Rutherford Street and South Randolph Street. 

The city has been working to have a covered space for the farmers market and other events so events can be held year-round. The current farmers market is held on Saturdays during summer and fall months on North Trade Avenue near the fire department outdoors. 

The new structure will be 15,000 square feet and a peach shed, barn style design, which will be used to provide more space for the existing farmers market. 

The new building will feature sliding glass windows with quilt patterns that can be closed during the winter months and during inclement weather. 

Landrum officials say the open-air concept will facilitate weekly markets that will foster local commerce and will be a tremendous asset to the city and its residents as well as tourists. 

City officials say the multi-use venue will accommodate special events, community gatherings, concerts and weddings. The new pavilion will also house the Music at the Tracks events during rain. Music at the Tracks is held during summer months at the Landrum Depot. 

The new pavilion will be able to accommodate approximately 200 people. 

City officials say the anticipated completion of construction of the pavilion is January 2022 with the parking lot to be repaved in March 2022. 

Landrum officials broke ground on the property this summer for construction to begin. The project is estimated at $1.8 million.
