Join Conserving Carolina on Friday, October 8, for an approximately 8 mile, easy / moderate (due to distance), out and back hike along the Point Lookout trail near Montreat. Conserving Carolina’s southeast stewardship manager, Pam Torlina, will lead the hike.

This excursion will take place in the Grandfather Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest on a portion of Old US Highway 70 that has been barricaded on each end to create a greenway for public recreation. The paved greenway has a 900-foot elevation change and is good for all skill levels. This trail winds through the woods and affords stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

If you are interested in attending the hike on October 8, meet at Ironwood Square, Conserving Carolina’s office, 847 Case Street in Hendersonville, at 8:30 a.m. to check in, arrange carpooling and start the approximately 1-hour drive to Old Fort Picnic Area. If you’re coming from an area closer to the trailhead, please contact Pam Torlina to make other meeting arrangements. Hikers should be prepared to return to the area in the mid-afternoon.

For your safety, do not attempt any hike beyond your ability and experience. Hikers should wear appropriate clothing and footwear; bring a bag lunch and / or snack and plenty of water. Please be sure to bring any personal medication that you may require. 

The next hike of the Fall Hiking Series will take place on October 22. The group will head to Florence Nature Preserve for a 5.1 mile, moderate, lollipop hike.
