Wright read a letter to commissioners about Lt. Smith.

Wright then presented Smith with his certificate.

“Lt. Smith has demonstrated his pledge as a school resource officer by dedicating himself to making the schools safer for our children and the staff that serve them,” Wright said. “Lt. Smith successfully completed the program with over 400 hundred hours of required training.”

Polk County Chair Tommy Melton said he and the board appreciate all Sheriff Wright has done for the county.

“You have dedicated men, you have dedicated women and your attendance is just unspeakable,” Melton said. “You do a wonderful job for our county.”
