TRYON—Michael Norman Winslett, 64, passed at the Hospice House in Landrum SC May 1, 2021
A heartfelt loss to his close family and the many friends who knew and loved him well, “Mickey” was a Tryon resident who was known and will be remembered for his generosity and kindness to others, and for the true Southern hospitality and humor. From a history in interstate trucking and the NCDOT, Michael retired and joined our community in 2006 to be closer to his mother Jean K Winslett, who retired here with her husband John C Winslett (deceased) in 1986, and his brother John (Jay) Winslett , and sister-in-law Alice Gunter.
In addition to assisting his family, he began putting his skills as a professional landscaper and Master Gardener to work (Michael in earlier years had a successful landscape business in Naples, FL; Phyllis Diller among his regular customers) in the design and landscaping of his extensive gardens for which he was well known. They became a part of the setting for many social events which gathered friends together. Entertaining was a favorite pastime for Mickey and his BBQ’s were not to be missed.  Beyond his talents as a fine cook and landscape designer, skilled hunter and fisherman, he built a NASCAR model and extensive record collection.
For those that went above and beyond, like the close friends, staff at the Hospice House and devoted friend Trey LeChance, our deepest gratitude. Our love for Mickey will burn bright far into the future.
