Commissioners approved joining the Foothills North Carolina Consortium for Home Investment Partnership ACT.

Polk County is joining with McDowell, Rutherford and Cleveland counties for the consortium.

The agreement states that the Cranston-Gonzales National Affordable Housing Act of 1990 makes provisions where units of general local government may enter into cooperation agreements and form a consortium to undertake or assist in undertaking affordable housing pursuant to the HOME Investment Partnership Program.

McDowell County will be the lead entity and the consortium will get assistance from the Isothermal Planning and Development Commission.

Funding for the project will come from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
