County has administered 17,639 vaccines

POLK COUNTY—Polk County had its first week of zero percent positive cases of COVID-19. 

County health officials released its weekly report on Thursday, with the county having 1,523 total positive cases since late last March. 

There are now 36.4 percent fully vaccinated and the county has administered a total of 17,639 vaccines. Of the total vaccines, 8,475 people have been fully vaccinated, according to the county’s report this week. 

There have been 30 county residents who have died from the virus and 69 people have been hospitalized. 

Polk County has completed 21,232 tests since last year. 

Of the county’s total positive cases, most continue to be in women at 55 percent, compared to 45 percent in males. 

Most cases have also continued to be in people age 25-49, followed by people age 50-64; people age 75 and above; people age 65-74; people age 0-17 and people age 18-24, according to the latest report. 

Polk County has discontinued its survey to get a vaccine. Now all people in North Carolina age 12 and above are eligible for a vaccine. Polk County has been taking appointments for vaccines at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring and has been doing no appointment necessary vaccines randomly throughout the county. 

Local pharmacies are also now giving vaccines.
