Charter releases information on how to apply for $50 a month credit to bills

POLK COUNTY—People in Polk County who qualify can now apply for a $50 a month credit to their Charter Internet bill thanks to a $3.2 billion federal program. 

The program is for families and households working, learning and shopping from home during COVID-19. 

Charter Communications recently released additional information about how its customers can apply for the Emergency Broadband Benefit program, which gives the discount to those who are eligible. 

To be eligible for the discount, people have to meet any of the following criteria, including qualifying for the Lifeline program (a federal benefits program); received benefits during the last 2 years through the school breakfast or free and reduced lunch; received a federal Pell grant during the current award year; experienced a substantial loss of income since Feb. 29, 2020 and the household had a total income in 2020 below $99,000 for single filers and $198,000 for joint filers or meets the eligibility criteria for a participating providers’ existing low-income or COVID-19 program (the Spectrum Internet Assist program). 

Charter Executive Vice President, Government Affairs Catherine Bohigian said Charter has a long track record of increasing connectivity through expanding broadband access, adoption and affordability. 

“Through our participation in the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program, we are further breaking down barriers to connectivity for American families, as part of our long-term commitment to advance access and improve broadband adoption,” Bohigian said.
