County adds only 9 COVID-19 cases this week

POLK COUNTY—Polk County added only 9 new cases of COVID-19 this week but the percent positive was higher than the last few weeks at 3.3 percent. 

The county has now had 1,513 positive cases of COVID-19, as of the latest figures released on Friday. There were 5 tests still pending. 

As of Friday, there were 1,461 people presumed recovered, 30 people who have died and 68 who had been hospitalized. 

Polk County has given 20,765 tests, compared to 20,511 tests given out as of a week ago. 

Polk County has given 17,497 vaccines for the virus, with total completed vaccines being 8,439. 

Most of the county’s cases continue to be more in females than males with 54.86 percent of the cases in females compared to 45.14 percent of the cases in males, according to Friday’s data. 

Most of the cases have also been in people age 25-49 years old, followed by people age 50-64 years old, people 75 and above, people age 65-74, people 0-17 years old and people 18-24 years old. 

Polk County has recently discontinued its survey to get a vaccine. Now all people in North Carolina age 12 and above are eligible for a vaccine. Polk County has been taking appointments for vaccines at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring and has been doing no appointment necessary vaccines randomly throughout the county. 

Local pharmacies are also now giving vaccines.
