Polk board appoints tax administrator for 4 more years

COLUMBUS—Polk County Tax Administrator Melissa Bowlin was appointed for 4 more years. 

The Polk County Board of Commissioners met Monday and heard from Bowlin, as well as appointed her position for 4 more years. 

Bowlin thanked the board and the staff, saying the county’s high tax collection rate and the license plate agency could not happen without them. 

“They work like a well-oiled machine,” Bowlin said. 

She said last year the license plate agency had 34,777 transactions and 82 percent collection and this year there have been 40,178 transactions and 90 percent collected. 

Polk County Commissioner David Moore said his family had an issue this year with a mobile home and Bowlin and her staff got it straightened out very well. He said they do a great job. 

Commissioner Chairman Tommy Melton said the tax administrator reports to the board of commissioners and the board decides whether to appoint that person for 2 or 4 years. He motioned to appoint Bowlin for another 4 years.
