County has administered more than 17K vaccines

POLK COUNTY—Polk County picked up another 13 cases of COVID-19 this week, bringing the total number of cases since late last March to 1,491. 

The county’s percent positive was 2.2 percent this week, which is low, but higher than last week’s 0.7 percent positive. 

The Polk County Health and Human Service Agency released its COVID-19 report on Friday, with a higher percent positive than last week but lower number of positive cases. Last week the county added 14 cases and another death. This week there were no new deaths, with the county remaining at 30 total deaths from the virus. 

As of Friday, 68 people had been hospitalized from the virus compared to 67 people last week, according to the county’s report. 

The county’s report assumes that 1,440 people have recovered from the virus and the county has tested 20,279 people since last year. 

As of Friday, the county had administered 17,204 vaccines for the virus, with 8,255 of those vaccines being complete. 

Most of Polk County’s positive cases have been in females at 54.8 percent, compared to males at 45.2 percent, according to Friday’s report. 

Most of the county’s positive cases also continue to be in people age 25-49 years old, followed by people age 50-64 years old, people age 75 and above, people age 65-74 years old, people 0-17 years old and people age 18-24 years old. 

Polk County has recently discontinued its survey to get a vaccine. Now all people in North Carolina age 16 and above are eligible for a vaccine. Polk County has been taking appointments for vaccines at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring and has been doing no appointment necessary vaccines randomly throughout the county. 

Local pharmacies are also now giving vaccines.
