One more death added last week from the virus

POLK COUNTY—Polk County’s percent positive rate for the COVID-19 virus last week was one of its lowest at 0.7 percent, but there was another death, making the total deaths in the county at 30. 

The Polk County Health and Human Service Agency released its COVID-19 report last Friday, with the county adding another 14 cases last week. The total number of people who have had the virus in the county is 1,478, compared to 1,464 cases the prior week. The people who are presumed recovered are 1,424 with 30 people who have died. 

There have been 67 people hospitalized from the virus, according to the Polk County DHHS. 

The county has administered 16,876 vaccines with 7,952 people having complete vaccines as of last Friday. 

The county has now completed 20,144 tests for COVID-19. 

Most of the county’s positive cases continue to be in females at 54.74 percent, compared to males at 45.26 percent. 

The positive cases also continue to be mostly in people age 25-49 years old followed by people age 50-64 year old, people age 75 and older, people age 65-74, people 0-17 and people 18-24. 

Polk County has recently discontinued its survey to get a vaccine. Now all people in North Carolina age 16 and above are eligible for a vaccine. Polk County has been taking appointments for vaccines at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring and has been doing no appointment necessary vaccines randomly throughout the county. 

Local pharmacies are also now giving vaccines.
