Salmonella, E. coli and other nasty infections that no one wishes to come down with or give to others share a common bond. They ALL can be passed on via dog feces.

Another fun fact I learned was that if 100 dogs dropped their feces over a two day period on a beach or bay it can cause anyone close to swimming and oystering to get the infection because of the toxicity of the fecal matter.
So when I walk my dogs, I am careful to always pick up behind them. Leaving aside the above problems, who wants to track this stuff into their homes, especially when they might have young children or elders with compromised immune systems living there? Just think about how many babies might be crawling across a carpet where another family member has inadvertently soiled it with what is on the bottom of a pair of shoes.
Please be a good citizen and pick up after your dogs. All of us who do will be very grateful.
