Polk County has had 1,444 total cases

POLK COUNTY—Polk County is up to having a total of 1,444 cases of COVID-19 since late last March, according to the latest data released from the Polk County Division of Public Health on Friday. 

The county did not make a report last week, so in the past 2 weeks, the county has added another 25 cases. On March 26, the last report made, the county had 1,419 cases over the last year. 

Of the 1,444 cases, 1,404 people are presumed recovered and 28 people have died. The county has had 64 hospitalizations from the virus. 

As of Friday, there were still 5 tests pending and there was no information on how many tests had been given nor the percent positive of the cases from this past week. 

The county has been praised for its administering of the vaccine. Polk County has been giving out vaccines at the Tryon International Equestrian Center at least once per week by appointment and had some vaccine days with no appointment necessary. All adults in North Carolina are now eligible for a vaccine. 

Polk County as of Friday had administered a total of 14,284 vaccines, with 5,854 of the vaccines being complete, or people having their second dose. 

Other businesses in the county are also administering vaccines, including Foothills Pharmacy in Columbus, Ingles in Landrum and Landrum Drug Co. 

Polk County’s data on the positive virus cases continues to be more in females than males, with 54.74 percent of the cases being in females and 45.26 percent of the cases being in males. 

Most of the county’s cases have been in people age 25-49, followed by people age 50-64; people age 65-74; people age 75 and above; people age 0-17 and people age 18-24, according to this week’s data.
