Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Letter to the editor

Columbus Shell Station was located on what is now the empty lot at the corner of Hampton and Mills Street. Gurley Patty Jr. “Bards” seen here pumping gas in my nice 1955 Chevy. Gas on this August 1963 day cost 26.9 cents per gallon. Wash windshield, check oil, water and air was free. Everyone knew and liked Bardo and station owner Sidney Smith “grouch”. It was a fun place for young and old to hang out. “Grouch” gave me my first credit account.

Every day I say thank you God for letting me grow up in Columbus.
