TRYON – On Monday, March 1, 2021, Janice Anderson Brumley, loving wife, mother of two children, grandmother of four grandchildren, and teacher for thousands of students passed away at the age of 70.
Her late parents, Roland (Andy) Anderson and Elma Carter Anderson, welcomed her home. She left behind her husband, Ken; her two daughters, Andi Goree (Jeff) and Anna Waldrop (Jeremy); her four grandchildren, Jay, Andi Leigh, Kennedy, and Roland; her brother Kenny Anderson (Cheryl); and her nephews, Toby and Casey.
Janice taught. She taught anyone around her about contagious love, joy, discipline, and laughter. As a result, friends and relatives would visit her and stay for weeks, months, and even years. She taught her students that someone cared. Janice knew the life story of thousands of Polk County, NC students (but could not stand the smell of grape bubble gum). She devoted 35 years of her life to being the best teacher that she could possibly be. It was her passion and her ministry to spread love through teaching.
Above all, she taught her family. She taught her husband about the right football plays to call when he was coaching and to never let her gas tank get less than half full. Janice taught her daughters and sons-in-law about grace, love, and how to be themselves. She taught her grandchildren about cookies, milkshakes for breakfast, and about that never ending love. Janice also taught them how to celebrate Christmas. Her Christmas was a two month celebration that featured hundreds of trees, ornament collections, and a special view on stockings.
Her last lesson was her strongest. She said, “I know where I am going and I know who is waiting. I am also leaving a lot behind, and I hate that, but we will be together again.”
Those who desire, in lieu of flowers, may make memorial donations in memory of Janice to the Polk County Community Foundation at 255 South Trade Street, Tryon, NC 28782 or to The Table Fund, Christ United Methodist Church, 410 N. Holden Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410.
