GREEN CREEK – Gary  “Speedy” Cleveland Owens, of Green Creek, NC, was released from this house of clay into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, January 17, 2021 after a brief illness.

 

He was a member of Green Creek First Baptist Church and was an Automotive Technician for Stott’s Ford. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the US Army. He was a member of American Legion Post #250 in Tryon and a member of VFW Post #10349 in Mill Spring.

He leaves behind four children whom he loved dearly, Karen Harris of Columbus, NC, Rev. Emanuel (Jan) Harris of Trenton, FL, Jeffrey (Carlia) Harris of Heflin, AL and Janice (Eddie) Halford of Mill Springs, NC.; six grandchildren, Lacy, Caleb, Grace Harris, Derek, Michael, and Sarah Brown and six great-grandchildren, CJ, Natalie, Journey Brown, Addliyn and Hayden Harris and Levi Henderson and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister, Doris McClure of Landrum, SC and a brother, Gene Owens of Columbus, NC.

 

He is predeceased by his wife Mary (Bradey) Owens, his  parents Cephas and Lillie (Metcalf) Owens and two brothers, Robert and Melvin “Punch” Owens and two sisters Frances Owens and Elaine Greene.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 1:00PM at Green Creek First Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Jim Hooper.

 

The family request  that masks and social distancing be observed for those planning to attend due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
