Record 141 new cases last week

POLK COUNTY—Polk County had a record number of COVID-19 cases last week, almost 3 times the previous record for a week in the county. 

The county added 141 cases last week, up to 1,037 cases from the previous week of 896 cases. The county’s percent positive last week was 15.3 percent, according to the Polk County Department of Health and Human Services Agency. 

As of last Friday, there were 20 tests pending and 807 patients presumed recovered. 

There have been 15 people who have died from the virus in the county as of last Friday and 44 cumulative hospitalizations. 

The county has completed 14,447 tests since March. 

Polk is now focused more on distributing vaccinations with week 3 beginning this week. Healthcare workers are getting their second and final vaccinations in the next couple of weeks. 

The county had administered an estimated 881 vaccinations as of last Friday. 

Most of the county’s positive cases continue to be in women at 54.39 percent, according to the county’s weekly data. There have been 45.61 percent of the positive cases in males. 

Most of the county’s cases also continue to be in people age 25-49 years old, followed by people age 50-64; 65-74; 75 and above; 0-17 and 18-24 years old. 

As of Tuesday afternoon, North Carolina had a total of 684,497 positive cases and 3,881 people currently hospitalized from the virus, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. 

As of Tuesday afternoon, the NCDHHS had Polk County listed as having 1,062 cases, which was an increase of 25 positive cases since Polk County’s figures last Friday.
