County manager talking to state about reopening safely

SALUDA—Polk County Commissioners are discussing opening up Bradley Falls again. 

The board met Monday and discussed the commissioners’ desire to have the falls open back up again. 

Commissioner Myron Yoder said he was happy to get the county’s water contract with Inman-Campobello Water District extended for 2 more years but wanted to know if the county was every going to get Big Bradley Falls open again. He said he knows that is a decision for the North Carolina Wildlife Association but there are a lot of tourists that would really like to see that open again. Yoder said that is another goal he wants for this year. 

County manager Marche Pittman said he is talking to wildlife and they are looking at setting up a viewing for Bradley Falls without letting people back on the falls. Pittman said the state is trying to set up a walking trail, but he has not been given a recent update, but he will reach out to the state soon. 

Commissioner chairman Tommy Melton said he talked to a friend who wants to go to the bottom of the falls to fish but can’t do that but he called a wildlife officer who said that is possible if people call wildlife and get permission.
