Polk varsity grinds out 4-set win on the road

Polk County outlasted Mountain Heritage on Thursday, picking up a hard-fought 3-1 win in Western Highlands Conference volleyball play in Burnsville.

The Wolverines reached the halfway point of the regular season with a 7-0 record, including 5-0 in WHC play. Mountain Heritage dropped to 3-3, 1-3.

The Wolverines took a 25-17, 21-25, 25-16, 25-22 win, the lost set their first of the season. The victory came despite three starters missing for various reasons.

Marissa Twitty had 14 kills and four digs for Polk, with Adair Edwards adding six kills and six digs. Caroline Taylor had five kills and six digs with Ada Kelley adding five kills and 13 digs.

Ella Waldman had 30 digs, with Rachael Davis notching 11 digs. Emmie McDowell had 30 assists, 15 digs, two blocks and two kills.

The Wolverines are scheduled to travel Tuesday to Madison for another WHC match before starting a run of five home matches in their final six contests.
