Polk adds over 100 cases in last 2 weeks

POLK COUNTY—After adding another 53 cases 2 weeks ago, which was a record for COVID-19 locally, Polk County added another 48 cases last week. 

The county now has had a total of 552 cases, with 476 people presumed recovered and 89 tests still pending as of last Friday, according to the Polk County Health and Human Service Agency. 

The county has completed 11,805 tests with a 5 percent positive rate. 

There remains 38 people who have been hospitalized from the virus and 13 deaths in Polk County. 

Most of the positive cases have been female at 54.89 percent compared to males at 45.11 percent, according to Polk health officials. 

Most of the county’s cases remains to be in people age 25-49, followed by people age 50-64, 65-74 and 75 and above. 

North Carolina has had a total of 441,365 cases with 2,553 people currently hospitalized, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. 

The state has completed 6,016,031 tests. There have been 5,855 people in North Carolina who have died from the virus, according to the NCDHHS as of Tuesday morning. 

On the state’s county alert system, Polk County is still listed in the yellow tier, or significant spread, which is the lowest tier. Other nearby counties are listed in higher tiers, orange and red for the state’s new alert system. 

Of the state’s cases, nearby counties include Buncombe County with 7,029 cases and 135 deaths; Henderson County has had 3,934 cases and 85 deaths; Rutherford County has had 3,257 cases and 80 deaths and Transylvania County has had 691 cases and 10 deaths, according to the NCDHHS as of Tuesday.
