New restaurant offering hot dogs and ice cream

TRYON–On Sunday, November 15, the husband and wife team of Tania and Davey Shealey officially opened The Rustic Cow in downtown Tryon.

The owners of The Rustic Cow Creamery & Sandwich shop, previously ran Break Out the Buns, a hot dog cart in Columbus.  This was the second stop on their journey to their current locating in Tryon, which began in Forrest City. Tania wanted to move to Tryon to be closer to home.

The Shealey’s decided to expand their hot dog cart to a store front that sells a larger variety of foods, because, “We felt Tryon was missing an ice cream shop,” says Tania.  

Being outside exposed to the elements, the success of a hot dog cart relies too much on weather, wind and rain, plus the cold months slowed them down too much. The Shealey’s wanted to start selling things that can be enjoyed year-round. Traditionally, ice cream is a summertime treat. At The Rustic Cow, it is available year round.

They also offer a variety of sandwiches as well at variety items to fulfill your sweettooth. 
“We wanted to do a brick and mortar theme,” Tania says, “an old fashioned feel.”  

The Rustic Cow serves hot dogs from the Shealey’s previous endeavor, Break Out the Buns.  

The hot dog cart opened in January 2018 at the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts. Now, The Rustic Cow is open in downtown Tryon.

Due to a similarly named restaurant in Tennessee, there will be a slight changing of their name soon. The Shealey’s are asking for customers to float a few ideas by them as suggestions to help them rebrand. 

The Rustic Cow is open Sunday thru Thursday 11 a.m. to 8 a.m. and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
