As the holidays approach, Morris the Horse is making his traditional appearance on the annual Tryon Fine Arts Center Christmas ornaments. These beloved holiday ornaments have been a Tryon tradition since 1991.

These ornaments, individually designed by local artists and produced by the Charleston Mint in 24 karat gold on jeweler’s brass, are sold to benefit Tryon Fine Arts Center operations and programs. The Morris ornaments are shipped around the world, and many people own everyone made since artist Tommy Thorne-Thomsen produced the first one in 1991.

Thorne-Thomsen designed the ornaments through 2002, and since then local artists Paul Koenen, Kathleen Carson and Kim Nelson have provided designs for the annual decoration.

This year’s design by Tryon-based architect John Walters; finds Morris – ever the entertainer – caroling merrily in TFAC’s Amphitheater with a backdrop of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
