Tryon Painters and Sculptors hosts Juried Art Show

 

Fall is approaching, so they say, people are out and about and the arts scene in Tryon is alive and well. Tryon Painters and Sculptors will be doing our part by offering an amazing Open Juried Show (art is judged, and prizes presented). The show will officially open Saturday, September 19 at our 78 N. Trade Street gallery. The show will be hanging in the gallery during regular business hours until October 31.

Artists are encouraged to enter their work by bringing it to the gallery on either September 13 or 14 – all details are on our website tryonpaintersandsculptors.com. Then the judges do their work by choosing the art to be in the show and who the winners will be. The prize purse is over $1,200 and includes 1st through 3rd and three honorable mention prizes.

Our highly credentialed judges whose 2D and 3D work includes mixed media, sculpture, photography, watercolor, acrylic, oil and drawing.

Dale McEntire whose art includes oil, pastel and sculpture lives and works out of his home studio in Saluda. As a native of Western North Carolina he was strongly influenced by his high school art teacher and has been involved in the visual arts since his training at Mercer University. Dale continued to evolve as an artist through private studies in Europe and the US including training at the nationally renowned Penland School of Crafts.

Mark Gardner specializes in turned wood sculptures. Also working in Saluda, Mark says, “The mountains are inspirational as a wood turner.” He began at the age of 16 when he enrolled in a furniture making class with his father at the University of Cincinnati. He found furniture making to be a slow process and the immediacy of wood turning was more attractive to Mark. After struggling on his own he took a course from John Jordan at the Arrowmont School for Arts and Crafts in TN. John gave Mark the foundation he was seeking and continued to inspire him. Mark is continually searching for that “right piece of wood” for an idea he has.
