Man arrested in Polk sentenced to 7.5 years in prison

MILL SPRING—A Cabarrus County man was sentenced this week to 90 months in prison (7.5 years) for trafficking methamphetamine.

William Andrew Lee Morgan, 24, of 6150 Smith Lake Road, Mount Pleasant, was sentenced in Polk County Superior Court for trafficking in methamphetamine by possession, according to the office of District Attorney Greg Newman.

Judge Peter Knight sentenced Morgan this week after Morgan was arrested by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office last year. Local deputies were alerted to a stranded motorist in the Silver Creek Community in Mill Spring and it was discovered he had active warrants out of Cabarrus County. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Karat was called in and alerted to the presence of narcotics in the back passenger seat, according to Newman. Over 800 grams of methamphetamine was discovered as well as a gun and scales.

“The Polk County deputies did an excellent job sizing up the situation with Mr. Morgan,” Newman said. “Once it was determined that he was wanted for felonies in his home county, the drug interdiction unit was brought in and the discovery of a large amount of meth was made with the help of ‘Karak’, the drug dog.  This case was the result of alert community policing and prompt response from Sheriff Wright’s deputies.  This was a positive outcome and I appreciate everything the Polk County Sheriff’s Department does to keep our communities free from drug suppliers.”

The arrest in Polk County was made last November and resulted in the seizure of more than $43,00 worth of methamphetamine. Morgan’s vehicle was located at Silver Creek Road and Bishop Lane in Mill Spring.
