County approaches 200 cases of the virus

POLK COUNTY—Polk County added its 6th death recently from COVID-19 with that death being in the Tryon zip code, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

The latest death makes 2 of the county’s deaths in the Tryon zip code and 4 of the deaths in the Saluda zip code.

Polk County has had 197 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to Polk County health officials. The latest update was made on Friday, which included 20 new cases since the last Friday.

Polk County announced on Wednesday, Aug. 12 that it had an additional 12 cases, which put the total case count at 189, then announced on Friday, Aug. 14 another 8 cases, which put the case count at 197.

Polk County has completed a total of 3,838 tests, with 197 positives and 154 patients presumed recovered, according to Polk County health officials.

There have been 3,400 negative tests for a 7.1 percent positive result in the county.

As of Friday, there were 89 tests still pending.

Most of the positive tests in Polk County have continued to be female, at 57.87 percent, compared to 42.13 percent male.

There were 14 cumulative hospitalizations from the virus as of Friday.

The ages of positive cases in the county include almost 90 in the 65 and older age range, about 45 in the 25-49 age range, about 30 in the 50-64 age range, about 15 in the 0-17 age range and almost 20 in the 18-24 age range.

North Carolina as of Monday had 144,952 lab-confirmed cases with 2,347 deaths, according to the NCDHHS.

Buncombe County had 2,079 cases and 54 deaths as of Monday, Henderson County had 1,558 cases and 56 deaths, Rutherford County had 820 case and 14 deaths and Transylvania County had 161 cases and 1 death, according to the NCDHHS.
