Entrepreneur Sara Bell has officially joined the Polk County Board of Education as its newest member.

During the board’s meeting on July 27 at Polk County High School, Bell was sworn in to complete the term of Saluda representative Rhonda Corley, who resigned in June. Corley had previously announced that she wouldn’t seek re-election when her term expired in November, with Bell the only candidate to file for the vacancy.

Bell and her husband, Tim, are co-owners of The Gorge, recognized by USA Today as one of the Top 10 aerial adventures in the country, as well as Green River Adventures, which specializes in guided whitewater trips, waterfall rappelling and whitewater kayak instruction.

A native of Birmingham, Ala., Bell holds a bachelor’s degree in Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education from Brevard College, where she and her husband met.

The Bells have two children, Finn and Hurley, who are students in Polk County Schools.

“As a parent of two Polk County students, I have always been impressed with the positive culture that is evident at every level of our school system,” Bell said. “I am thrilled to serve our community in this capacity and hope that my experience will be a positive addition to what is already a highly functioning, thoughtful team of leaders.”

“Polk County Schools is proud to welcome Sara Bell as our newest Board of Education member,” said Polk County Schools Superintendent Aaron Greene. “Mrs. Bell’s experience as an entrepreneur, perspective as a parent of students in our schools, and history of strong support for public education will benefit our district tremendously.

“We congratulate Mrs. Bell and look forward to her leadership and commitment to serving the students and families of our community.”
