In July, 2020 WWQT Radio based in Tryon and owned by the Life FM network added an FM signal broadcasting from Tryon Peak on 98.3 FM in addition to its longtime 1160 AM signal which broadcasts from Lynn.

Though the new FM signal can clearly be heard in western Polk County, it is primarily targeted to Saluda and Henderson County which it covers county wide as well as north western Rutherford County and western Landrum and north Greenville counties, which the AM signal also covers .

Polk’s first and only regular radio station began broadcasting 1954 from the Oak Hall Hotel as WTYN and has been in several locations both on the dial and physically in both Tryon and Columbus with each change in ownership. It has been called WTYN for most of its existence, but also WKJT, WJFJ as well as the current WWQT in its 66 year history of local broadcasting. The current ownership is the Life FM network from the greater Greenville County area which owns 28 stations in a dozen US states and is the biggest network in southern Gospel music.
