Polk ranks 5th in state for most value for their property taxes

 

POLK COUNTY—Polk County is at the top of all counties in the places in North Carolina where residents receive the most value for their property taxes.

A recent study was done by SmartAsset, a financial technology company, which placed Polk County as the 5th best place in the state where residents get the most value for what they pay in property taxes.

Polk County was ranked 5th behind Mitchell at number 1, McDowell at number 2, Avery at number 3 and Transylvania at number 4, according to the study.

Behind Polk and rounding out the top 10 was Yancey, Currituck, Jackson, Watauga and Swain counties.

The study measured the effective property tax paid in each county to determine the relative property tax burden. The study also analyzed the quality of public schools within the county and measured how much value properties in the count have gained throughout a 5-year period.

The factors determined where residents are seeing the most value for their property taxes.
