A boil water advisory was issued after the repair was complete for Carolina Drive residents from South Trade Street up to 330 Carolina Drive as well as Red Bird Lane.

Water customers likely experienced low water pressure and outages in the distribution system because of the main line water break.

The Tryon Water Department said periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Customers were advised to boil all water used for human consumption, including for drinking, make ice, brushing teeth, food preparation or washing dishes or advised to use bottled water.

Boiling water for one minute is needed to kill any disease-causing organisms that could be present in the water.

The water department also encouraged customers to conserve water whenever possible.

The boil water advisory had not been lifted as of press time Tuesday. The water department will advise customers as soon as it lifts the boil water notice, which usually takes at least 24 hours.
