Floors completed at Harmon Field open-air gym

TRYON—The floors have been completed at the Harmon Field open-air gymnasium in what was high school student Mason Lassiter’s dream.

Next will be to replace all 6-basketball goals in Lassiter’s vision for his senior project as a junior at the Polk County Early College.

Lassiter died last year, but had raised almost $11,000 towards his dream. His family and friends decided to continue his vision after his death.

The flooring was installed by iTennis360 recently.

Mason Lassiter, who was a 17-year old junior at the early college, had a vision to restore the open-air gym, which had fallen in disrepair over the years. He played basketball there since he was young and began fundraising for the renovation to be his senior project.

Volunteers for the project are still needed as well as fundraising.

Lassiter wanted to resurface the floor, replace the goals, add benches, a trashcan, a water fountain and have a mural painted.

Renovations began this summer.
