North Carolina adds 1,635 cases in 1 day

POLK COUNTY—Polk County has added one more case of COVID-19 this week as the state added 1,635 cases between Thursday and Friday.

Polk County’s case count is now at 68, according to county officials as well as the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Polk County has had 4 deaths from the virus.

Both North Carolina and South Carolina are becoming hot spots for the virus across the country, with both states adding over 1,000 cases in 1 day this week.

South Carolina had an additional 1,106 cases between Thursday and Friday, with 126 of those in Greenville County and 32 of those in Spartanburg County.

North Carolina’s total on Thursday was 57,183 confirmed cases, compared to 58,818 confirmed cases on Friday.

North Carolina as of Friday had 892 people hospitalized from the virus and had completed 836,725 tests.

As of Friday, Buncombe County had 528 cases and 36 deaths; Henderson County had 546 cases and 49 deaths; Rutherford County had 272 cases and 7 deaths and Transylvania County had 19 cases and 1 death, according to the NCDHHS.

All 4 deaths in Polk County have been in the Saluda zip code. Of the total positive cases, 23 have been in the Saluda zip code; 13 have been in the Tryon zip code; 19 have been in the Columbus zip code and 16 have been in the Mill Spring zip code, according to the NCDHHS.

In South Carolina there were 28,962 confirmed positive cases as of Friday, according to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Of South Carolina’s cases, 4,192 have been reported in Greenville County and 1,312 have been reported in Spartanburg County, according to SCDHEC.

In the Landrum zip code, there have been 28 cases reported and in the Campobello zip code there have been 24 cases reported, according to SCDHEC.
