The Tryon Hounds is proud to offer the Trip Hoffman Memorial Riding Scholarship for foxhunting enthusiasts in Polk, Henderson, Rutherford, Spartanburg and Greenville counties. The amount of scholarship may vary, but will be no lower than $500. The riding scholarship is for the 2020-21 hunt season that begins in September.

“The Trip Hoffman Memorial Riding Scholarship offers a unique opportunity for equestrians that have always wanted to foxhunt but could not afford to join the Tryon Hounds”, said Becky Barnes, Joint Master for the Tryon Hounds. “We are grateful to the Hoffman family for providing the seed money to establish the scholarship and to our members and the community for continuing to fund it,” added Barnes.

Recipients of the Trip Hoffman Memorial Riding Scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicant has fox hunted before
  • Applicant has an appropriate hunt horse
  • Applicant is willing to donate 25 volunteer hours per year to the hunt
  • Applicant demonstrates a need for the Scholarship
  • Applicant has two member sponsors

Trip Hoffman was a beloved riding member of the Tryon Hounds for decades. He also served on the Tryon Hounds Board of Directors and was the hunt club’s social committee chairman for many years. Trip was always impeccably turned out in the hunt field and was willing to support the hunt whenever asked.
