Norman L. Spivey Memorial Scholarship announces 2020 recipient

Angela Price has been named as the 2020 recipient of the Norman L. Spivey Memorial Scholarship. Angela is making history as the first female and conservation field recipient.

A Polk County High School senior, Angela will be attending Appalachian State University this fall. She is passionate about sustainable living and the environment and plans to major in Environmental Science. She is an active volunteer in her community and is dedicated to her studies. There is a bright future ahead for this motivated young lady.

In partnership with the Sunny View Clubhouse, the Spivey Family is awarding the Norman L. Spivey Memorial Scholarship for a 3rd consecutive year. Norman was a Polk County native and a Polk Central High School graduate. He would go on to become a U.S. Marine, a successful civil engineer as well as passionate conservationist and community volunteer. He held a deep appreciation of nature and understood our individual responsibility preserving our local resources for future generations.

The Spivey family is proud to follow his example and create a tradition of investing in the young people of our community as they seek to further their education and pursue their own passions. Former recipients include John Dougherty (Isothermal Community College) and Evan Rimer (UNC Charlotte). The scholarship is open to rising seniors who are Polk County residents and pursuing careers in the civil engineering or conservation fields.
