More females than males have contracted the virus in North Carolina

As of Wednesday afternoon, North Carolina has 29,889 laboratory-confirmed cases, 921 deaths and 716 currently hospitalized. The state has completed 434,921 tests.

While 63 percent of the state of North Carolina’s deaths have been of people age 75 and older, most of the positive cases have been of people age 25-49, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Of the total deaths in the state, 4 percent have died between the ages of 25-49; 12 percent have died between the ages of 50-64 and 20 percent have died between the ages of 65-74.

Of the total deaths, 59 percent have been white; 35 percent have been black; 1 percent Asian; 1 percent American Indian and 4 percent other, according to the NCDHHS.

Males deaths in the state have made up the most, at 53 percent, while female deaths are at 47 percent.

Of the total cases in the state, 44 percent have been ages 25-49, while 22 percent have been ages 50-64; 10 percent ages 18-24; 9 percent aged 75 and older; 8 percent ages 65-74 and 7 percent ages 0-17, according to the NCDHHS.

Most of the positive cases in the state have been in white people at 54 percent, compared to black people at 29 percent; other at 13 percent; Asian at 3 percent and American Indian at 1 percent.

More females than males have tested positive across the state with the positive cases being 51 percent female, compared to 49 percent male.
