Tryon rescinds previous suspension of ordinance

 

TRYON—Alcohol is once again allowed on the Tryon downtown sidewalks.

The Town of Tryon announced this week it rescinded its previous suspension of town ordinance 111.03, which allows alcohol consumption on the sidewalk in the downtown district of North Trade Street.

The town announced it was rescinding the suspension on Friday, May 22, just prior to Memorial Day weekend. The town ordinance was called Consumption of Alcoholic beverages on town property and public vehicular areas, which was originally approved on March 18, 2020 to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

The town rescinded the ordinance restricting alcohol downtown after North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper’s latest executive order, entering phase II of reopening the state. Cooper announced phase II of reopening last week.

North Carolina is now allowed to have restaurants, salons and barbershops reopened, as well as other businesses with restrictions and social distancing required.
