Polk remained at 35 COVID-19 cases and 4 deaths this week

POLK COUNTY—Polk County’s COVID-19 cases remained at 35 all week, with 4 deaths and 9 people being released from isolation.

All 4 deaths have been in the Saluda zip code, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Saluda has the most cases at 16, with the Columbus zip code having 6 cases, the Mill Spring zip code having 5 cases and the Tryon zip code having 8 cases.

North Carolina reached over 20,000 cases as of Thursday. The state has 20,860 laboratory-confirmed cases as of Thursday, with 716 deaths. As of Thursday, the state had completed 290,645 tests and 578 were hospitalized because of the virus.

Buncombe County had 209 cases and 7 deaths; Henderson County had 302 cases and 41 deaths; Rutherford County had 158 cases and 5 deaths and Transylvania had 9 cases and zero deaths, according to the NCDHHS as of Thursday afternoon.

Of the state’s total cases and deaths, 2,761 were in nursing homes with 383 deaths in nursing homes; 553 cases are in residential care facilities with 56 deaths and 1,130 are in correctional facilities with 14 deaths.

Polk County has outbreaks in 2 nursing home facilities, according to the NCDHHS.
