Poole was found on Saturday in a rural area in Echols County, Georgia.

The Asheville Police Department is working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Echols County law enforcement to determine the circumstances of Poole’s death.

Poole, 71, was believed to be driving a 2012 Hyundai Tucson and traveling with a dog when police began searching for him on May 8. The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons said Poole was believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment.

Poole was the band director at Tryon High School for many years. He started his career in Tryon in 1970 and later moved to Asheville.
