County has 35 cases of COVID-19

POLK COUNTY—Polk County’s case count of COVID-19 grew to 35 total on Monday afternoon with another death, bringing the total number of deaths to 4.

The number of people released from isolation remained at 9 as of Monday.

Last Friday, the case count for the county was at 33, then dropped to 31 because two of the persons who tested positive moved out of the county. Polk County Health and Human Services Director Joshua Kennedy said during a stakeholders meeting Friday that those two cases would be counted in the counties in which the persons moved.

The additional 4 cases were announced on Monday, as Friday’s count was officially 31.

As of Friday, when the county had 31 cases, Polk had tested a total of 352 people. Of the total tests, 314 were negative and 5 were pending.

The county has conducted a total of 39 drive-thru tests and had completed 47 message line calls as of Friday.

Of Polk County’s positive cases, most are in individuals aged 65 and over, between 5 and 10 are ages 25 and 49 and about 5 are ages 50-64 years old.

As of Monday, North Carolina had 19,023 laboratory-confirmed cases, with 661 deaths.

The state has completed 255,755 tests with 511 hospitalized as of Monday.

The virus has been detected in 99 of the state’s 100 counties, with Avery County the only county without a confirmed case, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
