Polk County Schools plans to locate 12 new Internet access points throughout the county thanks to a grant from Dogwood Health Trust and the Western Regional Education Service Alliance (WRESA).

The district recently received the grant from Dogwood, via a program managed by WRESA, for cellular hotspots to help ensure that students have Internet access during the current coronavirus pandemic, which has forced schools to move to remote learning.

Polk County Schools is now looking for churches, businesses, clubs or other organizations that would be willing to host one of the hotspots. A host organization must meet the following requirements:

• Strong Verizon Wireless cellular signal on the property
• Parking lot or other area for gathering of cars
• Willing to provide a single electrical outlet to power the device

The district plans to distribute the hotspots around the county to provide the best access for students and families.
