FGA gymnists hold their own at Coastal Classic

Competitors from Foothills Gymnastics Academy joined more than 2,700 other gymnasts on March 6 to take part in the Coastal Classic in Myrtle Beach.
Lydia O’Shields and ScottLynn Whiteside competed at the Xcel Bronze level. Genevieve Ard and Virginia Then represented FGA at the Xcel Silver level. Caity Elledge, Zina Ishwar, Anna-Carlisle Keim, Sherlyn Trejo and Jessica Sizemore competed at the Xcel Gold level.
O’Shields won first place all-around with 38.5250 from her first place on vault with 9.5, first place on bars with 9.85, first place on beam with 9.6 and first place on floor with 9.575. Due to these scores, Lydia was awarded a “Coastal Queen” trophy for having the highest overall score in her session. Whiteside received 36.925 all-around from her first place on bars with a 9.5, 9.25 on beam, 9.15 on vault and 9.025 on floor.
Despite the tough competition, Ard earned her highest all-around this season of 38.025 from her first place on bars with 9.725, 9.5 on vault, 9.45 on floor and 9.35 on vault. Then received 36.75 all-around with 9.45 on bar, 9.175 on floor, 9.1 on vault and 9.025 on beam.
In Xcel Gold, Trejo earned 36.25 all-around from her 9.25 on floor, 9.2 on bar, 9.025 on beam and 8.775 on vault. Elledge earned second all-around with 36.775 from her 9.45 on floor, 9.2 on vault, 9.1 on beam and 9.025 on bar. Sizemore earned first all-around with a 35.30 from her first on bars, beam, vault and floor. Ishwar earned 35.15 all-around from her 9.1 floor, 8.85 vault, 8.6 beam and 8.6 bar. Keim earned 36.1250 all-around with a 9.2 on floor, 9.175 on beam, 8.9 on vault and 8.85 on bar.
FGA coaches were proud of how their gymnasts competed against the strong competition from many states.
Due to the current novel coronavis pandemic, the 2020 gymnastics season was cut short, but FGA’s gymnasts are conditioning at home and look forward to being back in the gym soon.
