Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Tryon Painters and Sculptors (TPS) is offering three free classes in March and April. These classes are for residents of Polk County and Landrum (zip code 29356) only in cooperation with Polk County Community Foundation. They are aimed at beginners.

The large pool of local and regional artists gives us a talented pool from which to draw instructors. These classes are only available by registering in person or by phone.

Someday I’ll Take Art: De-mystifying the Art of Panting: Susan Ruby will teach this class that will help you develop your drawing and painting skills. It will change the way you view the world, allowing you to see and interpret your aesthetic environment in more objective terms. Never again will you say, “I don’t know much about art, but I know what I like.” Insight will be given to the artistic process and creating art helping you to better understand why it is that something appeals to you.

Animals in Clay: Instructor Ann Gleason will teach why clay is a great medium for creating many things. Several techniques will be used to create animals, from pinched clay birds to coil-built dogs and cats. Students are encouraged to bring in photos of favorite animals.

See Better, Draw Better: Instructed by Merry-Beth Noble, in this class you will learn about drawing from observation through a variety of approaches using still life and other subjects. The focus is on learning to see better in order to draw better. Your realistic drawing skills will improve as your abilities are stretched to work with traditional materials. A range of materials and techniques will be used that include charcoal pencil and ink as our media.

Some restrictions do apply. For more information on each class including dates and time, call 828-859-0141 or visit the gallery at 78 N. Trade St in Tryon. www.tryonpaintersandsculptors.com
