TRYON – Sandra Jane Major, 75, of Tryon, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, February 8, 2020 at her home.

 

Born in Carlinville, IL, she was the daughter of Dale Brown and the late Doris Bell Brown. Sandy was a graduate of Saline High School in Michigan and Michigan State University. She went on to teach high school English and later founded a childcare center in the Pittsburgh area.  She was also very active in the small business community, providing small business counseling, owning a consulting company with her husband and helping to design and operate a small business incubator center in Western Maryland. She and her husband moved to Tybee Island, GA in 2003, where she was active in Islands Christian Church in Savannah. In October of 2018, they moved to Tryon, NC.

Sandy enjoyed the outdoors – walks in nature, swimming, kayaking, and in earlier years, skiing and horseback riding. Most of all, she loved time spent with her family and God.

 

Surviving, in addition to her father, is her husband of 56 years, John R. Major; one daughter, Lisa Marie Freedman (Rick) of Bristow, VA; one son, John R. Major, Jr. (Bonnie) of Swanton, MD;  two brothers, David Brown (Linda) of Lake Tahoe, CA and Michael Brown (Cheryl) of Saline, MI; three sisters, Kathy Gill (Jay) of Sun City, SC, Laura Bird (Joseph) of Lake Orion, MI and Lisa Marshall (Carlos) of Channahon, IL; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Bradley, Kyleigh (Freedman) and John III, Anna Mae and Joseph Dale (Major).

 

Family Memorial services to be determined.
